Oltre ad integrare la tecnologia GSM/GPRS/triband, il Siemens XT55 utilizza il sistema di localizzazione satellitare GPS.
L'integrazione dei due sistemi (GSM/GPRS e GPS), oltre a consentire l'individuazione della posizione in tempi estremamente rapidi,
aumenta l'efficienza hardware e ottimizza il software di posizionamento.
Per una più rapida localizzazione satellitare, il modulo XT55 utilizza dodici canali paralleli;
inoltre la posizione è determinata in modo ancora più preciso grazie alla tecnologia TCXO (Temperature compensated crystal oscillators).
Il software di XT55 integra il protocollo di comunicazione TCP/IP che permette di convertire il flusso di dati in pacchetti per essere trasmesso via GPRS
di classe 10.
Il modulo, che vanta dimensioni estremamente ridotte, minimizza il consumo di energia grazie alla funzionalità TricklePower energy-saving.
